At the UN Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015, the Republic of Azerbaijan joined the Global Sustainable Development Goals, which include 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets for 2016-2030. The National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 6, 2016 in order to coordinate the implementation of the tasks related to the obligations arising from these goals, and the implementation of the function of the Secretariat of the Council was entrusted to the Ministry of Economy.
During the past period, a number of works have been carried out in our country in the direction of effective and comprehensive implementation of SDGs, the first Voluntary National Report was successfully presented for the High-Level Political Forum in July 2017 in accordance with the thematic plan "Promoting progress and eradicating poverty in a changing world" and was positively evaluated by the representatives of the participating countries.
At the same time, this year, Azerbaijan, as the first country in the region, for the second time at the High-Level Political Forum, discussed "Quality education", "Decent work and economic growth", "Reducing inequality", "Combating climate change", "Peace, justice and effective institutions" and It will present the second Voluntary National Report on the "Partnership for Goals" goals. The mentioned report was prepared by the Ministry of Economy with the active participation of various state institutions, civil society, scientific community and the private sector.
Azerbaijan is one of the 14 countries that will present the first report in the region and CIS, and the second in the world.
